Oh! bama

Bengaluru: The recent presidential elections have brought cheer on many faces. Among the different reasons for the cheer, I find two of them quite interesting and the ways chosen to celebrate.

Kenya declared a National Holiday the day election results were announced in the United States of America. This one was pretty impressive.
Just to think of the sorry state of affairs in the country; what did they try to do? Gain some political mileage(international politics, say)? Or did they have nothing else to do other than declare a holiday and enjoy boozing and dancing around the fire? Atleast I, felt it was a shame bestowed on the country men by the ruler. Nonetheless, it didn't fail to force a smile on the many faces, at the novelty of the concept!

The second is more local.
One Mr. Siddaramaiah, a name which the pres-elect would find pretty difficuilt pronouncing, organizes a meeting of 'backward people' to congratulate Obama.
Reason: Obama is 'backward', very much like the 'backward' Karnataka politician, and symbolises the cause of backwardness(and to remain there even after becoming the president of a super country) the world over.
All I could manage was some good laughter and retelling of the joke(?) among some 'forward' friends!

PS: As they say, there is no free lunch. The Obama victory has brought its share of sorrow among some of us for having to bear with the news of our dear 'Hockey Mom' losing out. Her victory would have left us with more reasons to open a news paper!
By the way, I was talking of Sarah Palin.
